Fun Bites Giveaway!

You might remember a couple of weeks ago that I mentioned I had recently fallen in love with my square FunBites cutter. Well, FunBites graciously offered to send me one of their heart shaped cutting sets for me to test out as well, and I'm now doubly in love!

The system is so simple - use the handled cutting piece to cut through your food item. This little cutter is heavy duty tough, so go ahead and give it a good push, and rock it back and forth to get a perfectly clean cut. It can take a little rough handling, so don't be worried about letting your kiddos take a turn at trying it out for themselves.

Use the insert piece to pop out your newly cut shapes. Easy peasy!

Isn't it cute? I love that there are two small hearts as well as a series of smaller shapes that make up a larger heart. My favorite part is that the little shapes can be used to make all sorts of other pictures, kind of like a big tangram puzzle.

The FunBites cuts through all sorts of food items from soft squishy watermelon and bread to hard cheeses and apple wedges. I've always gotten a perfect cut every time!

Snack time is always more fun when you're serving up cute food!

The perfect snack for a picky toddler (while they're busy watching the 49'ers kick some butt!).

FunBites has generously offered to give one Mom's Crafty Space reader a heart shaped Luv It! Fun Bites set of their own! Giveaway will end at midnight EST on Friday night - Good luck!

Waffle Iron Cinnamon Rolls

I've been making muffin mixes in waffle form for years now, so I don't know why it never occurred to me to do the same thing with Pilsbury cinnamon rolls until I saw it on Pinterest the other day.

Just heat up your waffle iron, pop the cinnamon rolls into the wells (one cinnamon roll per waffle), and cook for a few minutes. Keep an eye on it so that the cinnamon sugar doesn't start to burn since it can happen rather quickly (don't ask me how I know that). Easy peasy!

Pure genius, I tell you. You can't beat five minutes from start-to-finish for a special Sunday breakfast. Next time I'm going to try this with my homemade cinnamon roll recipe and see how well it works.

P.S. Sorry for the less than awesome iPhone pics...half of our family is down with a really bad cold and laryngitis, and I didn't have the energy to rush back upstairs for my camera. Eh, it's the idea that matters, right?

1-2-3 Simple Steps to Beautiful Handmade Cards

There is something so special about receiving a handmade card that always fills me with joy. I love the feeling that someone took time to think about me and create something special with me in mind. Admittedly though, for as much as I love to receive pretty cards, I tend to shy away from making them myself. It's not that I think it's too difficult, but the mere fact that I get incredibly overwhelmed with all the choices and options. I can honestly say that it has taken me hours to make a single card before because I'm so indecisive! When I heard that the new Darice Core'dinations David Tutera Celebrate Card System takes all the guess work out of cardmaking, I couldn't wait to try it out.

They weren't kidding when they said that the David Tutera Celebrate Card System makes cardmaking simple! The system is set up so that each card is made up of components from Step 1, 2 & 3. All of the products in the line coordinate with each other so that you can mix and match and layer without having to worry if it goes together or not. Easy peasy!

Step 1: Choose a blank card for your base. The cards come in several different sizes, tons of colors and even include specialty papers with pearlized and metallic sheens to them.

Step 2: Choose layering pieces to add dimension and personality to your card. Step 2 layers come in a wide variety of solid colors, textures, metallics and die cut overlays. Okay, I have to be honest and say that Step 2 might have been a little bit tough for {indecisive} me, just because there are SO many cool options to choose from!

Step 3: Choose finish embellishments to express your sentiment, add splashes of color, and bring the final piece together. You can add as many or as few of the Step 3 components as you wish including tags, pre-layered greetings, die cuts, rhinestones, pearls, and more.

I'm always a sucker for do-it-yourself layered flowers!

This lovely finished card took me less than ten minutes and zero frustration to put together! That's truly a near-miracle.

I like that the pieces can be combined in ways that make them look a bit more masculine as well. It's always so hard for me to find cards for the men in my life, so I'm really pleased that the David Tutera Paper Crafts system works well to create cards for both men and women.

I was having so much fun creating and experimenting with all the components that I just kept making card after card...

Sawyer, my six-year-old, saw me crafting and immediately sat down to make some cards as well.

He skipped Step 2 and went straight to the final embellishing, but I still think he did pretty darn good job! He settled on a seashell pattern and decided to make a good luck card for one of his aunts who just graduated from college.

I love that the system is so simple that my first grader could make something special and elegant without any direction or parental intervention. Truly, if he can do it on his own, anyone can!

You will be able to find the David Tutera Celebrate line at Joanne's stores soon, so be sure to check them out on Facebook, Twitter and You Tube to stay up-to-date on product information and release dates.

Want more? Three lucky winners will receive a $300 grand prize pack of supplies from David Tutera’s Celebrate cardmaking line AND a personally signed book from David! 20 additional winners will receive a $50 Celebrate prize pack. SIGN UP HERE FOR A CHANCE TO WIN!

DISCLAIMER: I received product and payment via The Blueprint Social for this post, however, all opinions are 100% mine.

Reese's Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheesecake Recipe

This round of Get Your Chef On is all about finding the tastiest peanut butter recipe, and since I had a Costco sized tub of cream cheese leftover from Simon's birthday brunch last weekend I decided to turn it into a peanut butter cheesecake. With chocolate, naturally...and Reese's, of course, since they pretty much go hand-in-hand.

Reese's Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheesecake
adapted from Taste of Home

Ingredients:

CRUST:
  • 8 graham crackers, crushed
  • 1/3 cup butter, melted

FILLING:
  • 40 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1-1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 8 oz. bag of Reese's Mini Peanut Butter Cups, quartered

Directions:

  • Combine graham cracker crumbs and melted butter. Press mixture into the bottom and sides of a greased deep dish pie pan or 10" springform pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 5-10 minutes until very lightly golden.
  • In a large bowl or stand mixer, beat together the cream cheese and sugar. Add vanilla and peanut butter and mix until combined. Turn the mixer to low speed and add the egg;, mix only until they are just combined. Carefully fold in the chunks of Reese's Mini Cups. Spread filling mixture into the crust.
  • Bake at 325 for 60-70 minutes or until the center is set. It will still be a bit soft and jiggly under the surface, but will set up during cooling.
  • Cool on a wire rack for an hour; then refrigerate overnight.
  • Before serving, drizzle with melted chocolate and sprinkle with crushed peanuts.

I'm linking up for Round 3 of Get Your Chef On!

Go Green! Eco-Friendly Cleaning With Heinz Cleaning Vinegar #HeinzVinegar

Using healthy and green cleaning solutions has always been an important priority to me, and I try to limit my family's exposure to harsh chemicals as much as possible. As my sons have gotten older and started "helping" more with the household chores, I find myself constantly having to refill bottle upon bottle of expensive non-toxic cleaners. There had to be a better natural cleaning solution that didn't cost so much! I remembered back to my college days where penny pinching had driven me to experiment with vinegar and baking soda cleaners, and I wondered why I wasn't still using this inexpensive and chemical-free cleaning option.

Honestly,  I was worried that cleaning with vinegar was going to leave a lingering and unmistakable vinegar odor, and I certainly didn't want my house smelling like that. Little did I know that vinegar is incredibly easy to infuse with other fragrances that can help mask that strong smell. The initial vinegar scent actually dissipates rather quickly, and you're left with the lovely aroma that you've infused into it. I wanted to try making lemon and lavender cleaners, so armed with my new-found fragrance knowledge, I headed out to Walmart to pick up some new Heinz Cleaning Vinegar!

I hit up Walmart at 7:00 a.m. and was totally amazed to find the store practically empty! No kids in my cart, empty aisles, and fully stocked shelves...am I in the Twillight Zone?

After looking through all of the cleaning aisles, I quickly realized that the Heinz Cleaning Vinegar is shelved next to the other vinegars. I thought it was a little strange to see something clearly marked for cleaning sitting on the shelf next to the salad dressings, but at least now I know where to look for it next time! The difference between cleaning vinegar and standard white vinegar is that the cleaning vinegar is more acidic which gives it better cleaning properties (6% vs. 5%).

At home I peeled two lemons and added the rinds to a mason jar. I topped the lemon peels with the cleaning vinegar and allowed it to sit for about a week to infuse the lemon fragrance. The vinegar will turn a light yellow color during the process as well.

Lemon Degreaser & All-Purpose Cleaner:
In a spray bottle, mix 14 ounces of lemon infused vinegar with 10 ounces of water. Shake well. Spray on to surface and wipe with a soft cloth. Polish with a dry cloth if necessary.

My boys love this lavender all-purpose cleaner that mimicks the fragrance and cleaning power of their favorite name brand all-natural cleaner. I knew that I could stop worrying about the vinegar aroma once my 5-year-old sprayed this homemade version and declared, "Mom, this smells SO good!" Success!

Lavender All-Purpose Cleaner:
In a spray bottle, mix equal parts of vinegar and water. Add 70-80 drops of lavender essential oil and shake well to combine. Add 2 small drops of purple food coloring if desired. Spray on to surface and wipe with a soft cloth. Polish with a dry cloth if necessary. This is my new go-to spray for polishing countertops!

The first place I wanted to test my homemade all-purpose vinegar cleaner was on my stainless steel refrigerator since it's always covered in sticky little handprints. I haven't found a natural and chemical-free cleaner that worked very well on stainless steel before (many cleaned well, but left streaks), so I was anxious to see how well it would work. I let Sutton add a few extra handprints to the fridge so we could really give it a good test!

He was also eager to help with the clean up process, and I didn't hesitate at all since everything he's using is non-toxic and all natural! He sprayed the lavender cleaner directly on to the fridge, wiped with a rag and then polished with a dry cloth.

It worked amazingly well! This has become our new favorite kitchen cleaner because it works wonders on all the different surfaces in the room - granite, tile, stainless steel and glass all look fabulous, not to mention stove tops, kitchen sinks and microwaves. Wow!

The next test took place in the boys' bathroom where the chrome fixtures are always dull with water spots and sticky fingerprints. A quick spray of the lemon all-purpose cleaner and wipe with a dry cloth restored it to a mirror-like shine - awesome!

That old faucet seriously looks like new!

I have to say that I have been blown away by the power of Heinz Cleaning Vinegar. It truly stands up to the needs of my household, and with three messy boys, that's saying a lot! I can't wait to try more of the cleaning, sanitizing and deodorizing tips that I found on the Heinz Vinegar website including a trick for keeping my car windows ice-free this winter!
