A couple of weeks ago we came across a booth selling marshmallow guns at the Strawberry Festival. The boys were instantly smitten, but at $7 each Mitch said no way - if there's a way to make it ourselves for less, we're all over it! One quick trip to Home Depot and $7 later, and we had enough supplies to make marshmallow shooters to supply the entire neighborhood!
I foresee a marshmallow battle in the making!
The construction is simple and straightforward. No directions here, but you can get the jist of it by looking at the picture. It's all made from 1/2" PVC pipe and connecters, with a quick blast of spray paint to pretty it up (and make sure everyone can keep track of which gun is theirs!)!
They're just as simple to use too! Just load a mini marshmallow into the mouthpiece...
...and give it a quick puff of air! Easy peasy! (Don't you just love how they color coordinated their guns to their swim trunks LOL!)
Let the battle begin! (For the record, Mitch can get some serious power behind his marshmallows!)
It's tough to shoot your marshmallows when you can't stop laughing!
SO. Much. Fun!

Love this!!! My 2 1/2 year old wants to play with water guns in the house. I will def be making him a marshmallow gun instead!!
I had no idea they sold colored PVC. That is so cool! Thanks for linking up with Fun for Kids Friday : )
i have never seen this before! how cool!
Oh these could keep my kids busy for HOURS! I bet we could even use pom poms in them if we did it indoors.
Thanks so much for linking up to my Summer Fun party!

Brilliant!
I love that you made them. I've thought about getting these before, but they were a little pricey. I bookmarked your page. I think I will follow in your footsteps. So fun!
We love marshmallow launchers, but they are 100 times cooler with the color!
Thank you ! I have 4 sons and their friends are over here all the time! I have seen these in catalogues before and refused to pay such high prices for them. Especially when I need half a dozen right from the start. I will be making these this weekend, for sure.

The idea is really cute, however PVC is a known carcinogen. PVC is unsafe for children's toys. Maybe there is something else you can use instead?
I love this! At my old job, my boss bought everyone one of those so we could relieve stress by having wars. :) I am going to make some myself now!
I'd love for you to link this at my summer-long party!
"Life's a Picnic!" party!
Would you post directions as to how long you cut the pieces. Thanks
I'm writing to request your permission to use your marshmallow shhoter graphic on my birthday party blog- http://www.birthdaypartygameslady.com/blog. The purpose of the graphic would be to grab attention to then lead people to your site to see how easy these are to make and what fun they'd be at a birthday party.
My blog supports my party game package business by aggregating good birthday party ideas I find around the web for parents not interested in my games packages, that have kids of different ages than my games are for, parents not able to spend the $50 on one of my parties- whatever. In the ten years of been selling my parties on the web, I've learned that frazzled parents get SO focused on the upcoming party that they don't think to look for ideas beyond googling 'birthday party ideas', and they miss a lot of great ideas that don't pop up in that search- like your cool marshmallow shooters that would be a perfect activity for a young boys party. So- I want to pass this idea along to my readers, and nothing will get their attention so much as your photo.
May I use your graphic to get people following the link to your page?
I'm looking forward to hearing from you. Please email me thebplady at aol.com - you know how to turn this into a real email address, but hopefully the scam bots don't.

These are so fun!!
With the "t" connecter that leads to the handle, don't the marshmallows fall down there or does that loop on right over the piece of pipe like a sleeve?
I love these! I also saw these at the Strawberry Festival (but in Ohio) and my girls wanted these! Now I can make my own! Thank you for sharing!
Ha! These are so fun, even my older kids would love these!
I run Fun Family Crafts, a site similar in nature to Craftgawker and Spotlight, but different in that it's a library of craft tutorials geared only at kids. I would love it if you'd stop by and submit this to be featured! (I link to you, I don't post your tutorial on the site) Feel free to submit as many kid friendly craft tutorials as you like! http://funfamilycrafts.com/
i think they are cute and look like a lot of fun... not sure the idea is good as far as kids popping t he marshmallows into their mouths after being blown out by other children
PVC leaches, and although piping is safe to send water through in plumbing, those open ends where it was cut that your children are putting their mouths on can poison them.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyvinyl_chloride
Try to find a sealed cover. A friend used to make didgeridoos out of PVC pipe and fitted a silicone cover for the part he put his mouth on.
Thank you for your concern about the leaching PVC chemical. As with all activities, I leave this to your own discretion as the evidence is varied and provides differing opinions on the subject matter. Since my children only use these for a short while at a time, I am not concerned about their safety when using these products.
From the same source that you sited above: "PVC is a controversial material, in part because of the generic term which is applied to many products, but each product may have a difference in the chemicals used during its production. For example, drinking water PVC pipes do not contain the controversial chemicals that household plastics contain."
In addition, here is some differing evidence supplied:

P.S. I have a linky every Monday would love you to stop by Monday and link up.
I am shocked that people have the ball sax to seek out ideas for fun then actually criticize the idea with mundane comments! Seriously people your mother probably soaked your spotters in whiskey and I am gonna bet none of you are alcoholics! Get over yourself! If you want to take up a cause UNICEF is taking applicants!!! Notice I used my name too and didn't hide behind anonymous!
I'm wanting to make these but I'm not sure about the measurements. Did I miss that part of the post or did you just wing it??
LOVE this idea and cannot wait to try it out!
Just stopping by to let you know that I've featured your craft on Family Fun Crafts! You can see it here:

If you have other kid friendly crafts, I'd love it if you would submit them. :) If you would like to display a
featured button on your site, you can grab one from the right side bar of your post above.
OMG! We just had the same experience at an art festival. They were also selling for $7, and I was all "I'm sure I could find a tutorial on Pinterest." Haha.
And here it is! :)
AWESOME!! This is the DIY craft project of the day on One Good Craft! http://onegoodcraft.blogspot.com.
This is FOR SURE going on the No BUmmer Summer list!
We have had many a good time with marshmallow shooters. Your hubby did great I love the bright colors.
Very fun! On my summer to-do list now! I bet the dog wouldn't mind cleaning up after us if we miss a few!
thanks for sharing.
Do you have measurements and directions? Want to make them for a family reunion
My kids had one of these when they were younger. We discovered that if you leave the marshmallows out and let them harden overnight they work better in the shooters.
Thanks for the idea. Would you please give the measurements as I would like to make some. Thanks.

I don't think they do. She said she spray painted these ones.
